Don’t Forget The Groom

Brides in general have a tendency to turn their wedding into a celebration focused around me, me, me. And that’s perfectly natural. After all, most girls start planning their own wedding from the time they hear the story of Cinderella. It’s genetic. So the poor groom often gets left out. He’s the one who hocked his Harley and bought you the biggest diamond ring that he could afford, and then got down on one knee and asked you to marry him. If he wants to be involved, let him. And for those grooms who don’t want to be involved, they at least deserve a chance to have some fun.

The Bachelor Party

The groom is always second to the bride on their wedding day, and most guys realize this. And that is why the groom gets his own special night – the bachelor party. Some brides see bachelor parties as a threat. Visions of strippers and booze can turn the night before your wedding into a nightmare. You may be surprised to know that not all bachelor parties turn into debaucherous nights of alcohol-fueled pranks. And the groom generally does make it to the altar on time. You simply need to trust the man you’re marrying, as well as his best man. It’s the best man who is planning the bachelor party, and also the best man who is responsible for making sure the groom makes it to the church on time.

However, you can offer suggestions regarding the boy’s big night to make sure that your groom makes it to the alter, sober and on time. Suggest that the party be held the weekend prior to the wedding. If they do get carried away, this will give your betrothed and all of his friends a few days to sober up.

Another way to keep the boys safe is to rent out a hotel room or suite. Certainly there are some additional risks in this proposal, but the benefit is that the men have somewhere safe to sleep and no one has to drive home. When you do book a room, make sure to tell the hotel that it is for a bachelor party. They may have special arrangements in this case.

Don’t Forget the Tuxedo

Choosing the groom’s outfit is just as important as choosing the bride’s wedding dress. It is important to start early when decided on the perfect tuxedo for your perfect man. Spring is a beautiful time for the wedding, but keep in mind that this is also prom season. So if your wedding does clash with the busiest time of year for tuxedo rentals, make sure to get in early. So that your man is not stuck with the last powder blue leisure suit left on the rack since 1974, a deposit on the tuxedo should be the first thing on your to do list.

Two People, One Wedding

Now is the best time to learn to compromise. Especially if both you and your groom are fanatical organizers, and neither of you wants to take a back seat to planning your wedding. A wedding is a single event, so it will never work to have two people working with two separate plans. One person will ultimately have to be the project manager, taking responsibility for the overall planning. But both of you should have a voice. A wedding is about both of you, and both of you should have a say in things that are important to you.
